I grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area and many years ago I had the
good fortune to meet Ralph Heintz, a wonderful man and who was one
of the best music box restorers around. I am sure many MMDigest folks
knew him. I visited his store in Menlo Park, "The Antiquarian," many
times to watch him work, learn about music boxes, and listen to the
restored music boxes he had for sale.
I remember him telling me about an excellent lubricant he used for his
all his work. I had never heard of it, but ever since then, I have
been using this product on my music boxes when I clean the mechanisms
and anything else around the house that needs this type of compound.
It's called TSI301, a high performance compound, lubricant, anti-seize,
penetrant and cleaner. I can highly recommend it for use in music
boxes etc. Here is the web site for it and an explanation of what it
is and how it works: http://www.tsi301.com/issynthetic.htm
