Book "Treasures of Mechanical Music"
By Don Teach
The book "Golden Age of Automatic Musical Instruments" was meant to
be a replacement for "Treasures of Mechanical Music". I think the
errors are more in the scales of music boxes than any other part of
the Treasures book. It was found that some music boxes are not all
tuned alike even though they may look alike. Golden Age was offered
with many of the known scales in the back of the book.
The two books are very similar in technical information, with Golden
Age going into more detail about the manufacturers. My money says
you will not see anymore books anytime soon on mechanical instruments,
as the sale of these books is limited.
The color pictures in Golden Age are excellent. It was the first time
in the mechanical music collecting hobby that an attempt was made to
offer color pictures.
