I've just browsing the collection of scanned rolls recently released
by Terry Smythe under the title of "Batch 26". There certainly is
an abundance of interesting material and accordingly, I would like to
thank all contributors in this effort. When I download the files,
I can listen to the content by playing the file using my computer's
Quicktime Player or I can open the file in my MIDI sequencer program.
The Quicktime Player uses a "piano" voice to produce the music. The
MIDI sequencer allows me to assign any voice I wish to listen to the
music. Both methods supply a limited degree of expression for
listening to the reproducing rolls.
The MIDI sequence program displays the note field in a modified piano
roll format. It is the same format that I use for many of my organ
roll projects. The short coming of my MIDI sequencer program is that
the actual coding on the expression rolls fails to be displayed,
including the sustain pedal. Not only is sustain pedal code not
displayed, its function is also absent. Needless to say, the music
played back by this method is not very satisfying.
Am I missing something?

[ I think you seek "e-roll format", which is an image of the music
[ roll, intended to be played on the real instrument instead of
[ a synth and General MIDI voices. Maybe Terry Smythe can provide
[ more details. -- Robbie
