I have a copy of the Treasures of Mechanical Music that I enjoy just
having. It has some errors in the scales along with so-so black and
white photos but it is still interesting. The more I look at it the
more I wonder why someone would want a copy of it when "The Golden
Age of Automatic Music" can still be purchased easily. Golden Age
has color pictures, some story, fewer mistakes (there are a couple),
and all the major tracker scales.
Personally I would like a third book that shows more pictures, with
pictures taken on location as well as pictures from the archives, and
then photos of existing machines that have survived the ravages of
time and poor care along with photos of beautiful restored machines.
Since a third book does not seem to be forthcoming (not from me at
least) then please continue to send in your photos of pianos on
location. I tried to get people to send in pictures of their favorite
A roll piano once but no one ever sent in any pictures.
