Hi, I hope that someone in Chicago or Seattle will have cracked this
problem by now. If not, here is some more information that I collected
today.
Artzsche is either a small company that contracts with News Documentary
Corp (NDC) or a group within NDC. I suspect that it is the latter,
based on the web page graphics and text.
The reply I received was from Jamie Reese, in Seattle or nearby
(I think). I did find a couple of J Reese's in that area. Anyone near
there want to make a couple calls?
Although Artzsche sells the DVDs directly, they market some associated
products through a company called CafePress.
CafePress claims to have nothing to do with Artzsche other than
selling their T-shirts, etc. They also refuse to give out any contact
information on Artzsche. So I asked to speak with their manager of
marketing. Not available. So I said that I'd call back and who should
I ask for. They refused to give out the name of their marketing
manager. Ditto with their president or other officers. Against policy,
they said. So I looked up their officers' names on their own web site
(not much of a secret) and will call directly tomorrow.
I could not find anything on NDC other than their short web pages and
the name and e-mail address of their project manager. No reply to an
e-mail that I sent her.
I called the phone number on my PayPal receipt and got a recording so
I left a message. So far no reply. I put that number into the reverse
phone book but got nothing.
The address that Robbie gave yesterday gave the zip code 60522 in Oak
Brook, IL. That zip is for Hinsdale. The Illinois Secretary of State
lists NDC as incorporated by National Registry Agents Inc at 200 West
Adams Street in Chicago, IL 60606. I can't find a phone number for
them or for the building. Could someone around Chicago dig in the
phone book and get me a number? This might be a good lead.
NDC is listed in the name of Jeffery P. Clemenic, 17W300 91st Street,
Hinsdale, IL 60527-6033. 60527 is not the zip code for Hinsdale, but
for Willow Brook, a town inside Hinsdale. That street address doesn't
seem to exist but Jeffery is listed at that street address in Willow
Brook, Willow Springs, Downers Grove, Hinsdale and Oak Brook -- all
near Chicago. When I tried to look up his phone number, there is no
'Clemenic' listed any place in Illinois. But when I did a national
search for that name I found him in all five towns listed above.
By the way, the Sec. of State told me that NDC failed to submit an
annual report last fall so their corporation has been dissolved by the
state -- surprise! However they may not even realize this because I
suspect that the Sec. of State would have had a grand old time trying
to give them the bad news.
I checked out the NAWCC message forum and discovered that the clock
collectors have had a problem with Artzsche too. One person wrote that
the DVDs were back ordered until July 16th. I suspect that this is
another attempt to delay complaints until after the PayPal 45 day
deadline.
I just posted a warning on their forum. Too bad, because these DVDs
looked very interesting.
Maybe more progress when I call directly to the CafePress officers.
[ Later --
Well, here's a surprise. Continued efforts to contact Artzsche and
News Documentary Corp have been unsuccessful. But, at the suggestion
of a couple of MMD members and someone from NAWCC, I asked [PayPal]
for a refund. Much to my surprise, it was credited to my account
promptly.
This whole thing still baffles me. Maybe it really is on the up and
up. But they should really learn to reply honestly to their e-mail.
We'll see what happens after July 16th. The fellow in NAWCC got an
e-mail saying that they would ship on that date. Just remember,
PayPal has a 45 day limit on refunds.
Please let us all know if someone actually gets a DVD.

Craig Smith
