I would like to also extol the Nisco Museum of Mechanical Music in
Israel. A couple weeks ago my wife and I made our second visit to
the museum and our third visit to Nisan Cohen. The first visit was
in his former home in Netanya when the museum was only a dream.
This time we took with us our great niece and her close friend,
both from California, who were touring Israel with us. They had
never seen a music box, crank organ or Orchestrelle before. They
did see a reproducing piano before the museum, but at the home of
Eliyahyu Shahar in Tel Aviv.
It was a joy to watch them and the others on the museum tour as they
heard these instruments for the first time in their lives. Both the
Israelis on the tour and our guests were delighted with the great
presentation. This place, just south of Haifa, is a must on your
next visit to Israel.
Eli's newly restored Weber Duo-Art piano is truly music to the ears
as well. He is now working on his Aeolian Orchestrelle, model XW.
Eli's collection is small, but very impressive, with all instruments
having been fully restored by Eli himself.
