Good morning from Florida: I have had a call from the owner of a late
Ampico B, 1937, in a Mason & Hamlin 'B', 5'4" grand. He wants to sell
the instrument as he is downsizing to move. I went and inspected and
got many pictures for anyone interested.
First we must come up with an expected minimum price for such an
instrument. It is in very good almost original condition. Some tubing
has been replaced in the drawer, but that is about all. This is a
plain case with six tapered legs in walnut. Finish is original and
quit good. Piano action with perfect ivory is original as is stringing
and the piano plays well. The player expresses, but not as well as it
could. There are sixty or so good re-cut Ampico rolls as well as some
late originals.
My question is what should he expect to get for this piano and is anyone
out there interested? I would like several opinions on the pricing as
I have just never seen an Ampico this late and never in a Mason 'B'.
There are just not any past sales to compare with. If anyone is
interested in this instrument, just email me personally for more info
and pictures. Pricing opinions I would like public for others to see
and discuss possibly.
