In the new movie, "Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End", there
is a brief glimpse of a mechanical music instrument early in the film.
The scene takes place in a Singapore marketplace. An instrument with
a pinned wooden barrel is shown a couple of times. In the second shot,
the instrument is blown up, or at least the film editing makes it seem
that way.
The "Pirates of the Caribbean" films are fantasy adventure and supposed
to take place during the late eighteenth or early nineteenth century.
Could such an instrument have been in Singapore at that time? I find
it odd that the director added shots of this instrument to the scene
because it is out of place there and doesn't advance the story.
If anyone else sees the movie and can better identify the instrument,
please let us know.
