Church Organ Pipes in a Band Organ
By Gary Rasmussen

This posting is a follow up to my posting in the 070401 MMDigest several
weeks ago. In that MMD I told about an available 1928 church pipe
organ and I asked for thoughts about using church pipe organ pipes for
applications such as a band organ or orchestrion.

Thank you for the numerous comments in and out of the MMD. I particularly
enjoyed comments from Art Reblitz about the many different sounds of
organs (I am still enjoying Art's autographed book I received at the
AMICA convention last year) as well as from D.L. Bullock when he said
among other things:

"...Buying a church organ so you can remove a very few pipes to put
into a band organ in my view could be like buying a classic Rolls Royce
so you could remove the hood ornament, the tail lights and the floor
mats to use on your Volkswagen and then crush the rest of the car..."

Although I would love to have a pipe organ in my home, and I would like
to take on making a band organ and orchestrion one of these days, I have
concluded that this church pipe organ is too large of a project for me
to take on at this time.

[ snip -- Upon request Gary can provide details of the large church
[ organ in Cincinnati, Ohio, awaiting removal. -- Robbie
