Dear MMD'ers, Some time back I inquired about getting a small
blower for a Caliola I've been asked to build. I received a number
of replies, but had no luck until a nice guy in the UK contacted me.
He has available very tiny blowers, 12-24 VDC, and are only 4.5" long
and 2.75" wide, and will play 25 pipes, so as the Caliola has 44,
I'll need two. They are quite inexpensive, only 20 GBP, but shipping
is rather dear.
For those of you who asked to be informed if I found a source, please
go to <motorbikes@ntlworld.com> and tell Chris I recommended him.
Now that I have the blowers, I can start designing the case. It will
be hand-played, from F an octave and a fifth below middle C (no roll
frame). The case will be fire-engine red (or circus red) black trim,
and the wooden pipes will be gold! An ersatz calliope!
I'm still looking for brass curlicues (or plastic) for this and my
almost-completed John Smith busker organ. Any US sources? I used to
get them from Decorators' Supply in Chicago, but they won't sell me
anything unless I buy their complete catalog in 7 volumes.
Many thanks to all the wonderful MMD members who are always ready to
lend a hand.
Vic Searle - trying to build these in my cell in the rest home!
