Player Piano Bench With Roll Storage
By Bob Conant

Dear MMDers, Greg Filardo mentioned a player piano bench with roll
storage. This reminded me of another twist on this idea. If any of
you have visited the late Harvey and Marion Roehl's collection, you
may recall that Harvey would often accompany a silent movie on his
Photoplayer. To accommodate tour groups, he needed all the seating he
could get for the performance.

To this end, Harvey and Marion constructed four "chests" with office
style casters on the bottom and padded seats on top. The seat tops
lifted for access to storage inside, using hinges and support hardware
available at most hardware stores. The boxes themselves were sized to
handle most piano and organ rolls standing on their ends. The inside
length and width are 20 inches by 14.5 inches and will hold 30 large
rolls and a larger quantity of mixed or smaller rolls.

I was fortunate to be able to obtain these units from Marion's estate
after she passed away. I have found them to be not only a fond memory
of our friends, the Roehls, but extremely useful in holding part of my
roll collection.

Best regards,
Bob Conant
