Wurlitzer 105 Band Organ Sold on eBay
By Tom Grace
Hello Everyone -- In response to what Howard Jensen said about
extending auctions, having been a eBay seller for over eight years
I have attended two of the eBay conventions. At the very first
convention it was proposed that if someone bids in the last five
minutes the auction would extend for thirty minutes until there were
no bids in the last five minutes, giving everyone a chance to re-bid
thus giving a "going, going, gone" situation and five minutes of
silence. They agreed this was a good idea as it would tend to raise
final bids which made more money for the seller and for eBay.
Here we are years later and they have still not implemented the
software change to make this happen. Many people will not bid until
the very last minute in order to keep final cost low. It's a known
fact that if you bid some newbee will come along and outbid you thus
driving the bidding. I often see no action on my items until the
very last day; that's when the bidding starts. Items can be placed
on a "watch" list so you don't loose track and then eBay sends you
a reminder that the item is going to close soon and it's time to bid.
I agree that the eBay software needs changing to extend auctions but
it looks like they have no intention of doing it.
