A concert producer has asked Douglas Heffer to provide a Duo-Art
grand piano (or his D-A Vorsetzer!) for a forthcoming concert in Paris
that will feature music by Maurice Ravel. Naturally the concert must
include Ravel's famous "Bolero".
He writes, "At the moment I am asked to participate in a spot with my
Duo-Art grand, this for a program about Ravel. The producer would like
to have the 'Bolero' on the piano, amongst other rolls, and then some
played by Ravel himself."
Douglas has located some Duo-Art rolls played by Ravel (I believe they
are British issues) but the roll of "Bolero", Duo-Art 74728, hasn't yet
been found. According to the Duo-Art rollography by Charles Davis Smith,
the piece was recorded by Rudolph Ganz and issued in October 1933.
Douglas inquired among the pianola fans in UK, and I telephoned a few
collectors in the States, but so far no luck.
Please contact me if you have the Duo-Art "Bolero" and would be willing
to lend it for transcription and precision duplication. Thanks.
