Aeolian Duo-Art Organ Pedal Multiplexing
By Bob Taylor

In the past there has been a discussion here about Aeolian organ
pedal switching. The Duo-Art organ rolls can play only the bottom
13 notes in the pedal in its default mode, but through multiplexing
the organ can play the entire 32-note pedal compass.

While the default mode, playing only the bottom 13 notes, is
sufficient most of the time, some compositions depend heavily on the
full pedal compass switching. In my posted Podcasts, one such number
is demonstrated. That can be heard at
http://aeolian.home.mchsi.com/aeolian/Podcast/1C36E2C1-B9E8-4D73-A68A-FE0B3E5EB4E9.html

This music would be substantially changed if the octave jumps in the
pedal were omitted. My point here is that Aeolian did intend for the
octave switches to be present and operating. The absence of those
switches is probably the result of an uninspired technician who found
it easier to remove them rather than to fix them.
