I am moving to much smaller quarters and am unable to keep my piano.
Just as well -- it was beginning to look like I'd never restore it.
Serial number 148092, 5'2" in mahogany.
It is absolutely complete, including the original belly cover and silk
power cord! I re-tubed the drawer and got it playing and expressing,
but there are a number of leaks; it needs and deserves a restoration.
But it is completely original and thus a restorer's dream -- no Elmer's
or space-age materials to clean up. I don't believe it had ever had
a screwdriver on it before me. I took dozens of digital pictures of
it as I worked on it and can put them on a CD for the buyer. As I
understood the story, it was in the same family since new until I got
it from their home.
While I can't claim to be an expert, the piano seems to me to be in
remarkably good condition. I can find no cracks in the soundboard or
the bridge and the pin block is tight; it holds A=440 tune indefinitely.
The outside finish, which is original, is showing some alligator but
inside is quite beautiful. I was planning to try to re-amalgamate the
finish instead of refinishing. All the original ivory keys look pretty
good with a few edge chips. Includes what I believe to be the original
bench, but I'm not sure. The bench was damaged and needs to be reglued.
Will include a couple of hundred Ampico rolls including about 15 Jumbo
rolls, all original. Some have deteriorated pretty badly, but many,
including most of the Jumbo's, are in pretty fair shape.
I believe that as complete and original as it is that it is a bargain
at $5000, but I don't have a lot of time to try to get top dollar
so don't be bashful about offering what you think it's worth to you;
I've never been insulted by anyone offering me money. You can call
me if you like at 1-806-794-4277. The piano is located and playing in
Lubbock, Texas, about 300 miles due west of Dallas.
