FS: Kimball Player Pump Organ in South Dakota
By Richard Moody
I have for sale, on a best offer basis, a Kimball player pump organ.
For a month or so this will only be on MMD as I would like to donate
at least 10% of the selling price to Foxtail in appreciation of the
efforts that go to making and keeping this superb list online.
The organ is in rough but restorable, (I think) shape. Pictures are
at http://www.pnotec.com/Sales.html It has a 44-note wooden tracker
bar but no rolls, nor a take up spool. Some notes on the organ still
play when pumped. Some panels are missing. I have never seen or heard
of such an early player and don't have access to Hathaway and Bowers or
the other books to look it up. Historical information and experience
regarding this instrument would be appreciated.
The holes in the tracker bar appear to be closer to the 88-note format
rather than the 65-note. I will be happy to answer any questions and
go deeper into the instrument. I don't think it has ever been taken
apart, much less any rebuilding done. The roll motor appears to be
four larger pneumatics arranged around an aluminum looking pipe in the
vertical position. I have to trace out the control levers to see if
they are all there but I am not sure exactly what I am looking for.
As a piano technician with a background in player pianos and pump organs
I am reasonably sure it can be restored but of course that would have
to be determined by detailed inspection by prospective buyers. In that
regard the final price is negotiable so if you are truly interested,
offers or bids are non binding and only to determine who gets first
chance to acquire this pneumatic curiosity. I want to see if there is
interest among MMD members before putting it on eBay or consigning to
a specialty auction or tinkering with it myself. But where in the
world would one get rolls for this?
Located in south central South Dakota. Please email me with your
interest and or questions. <ric@pnotec.com> or call Richard Moody at
