As some of you already know, I've had for years the idea of producing
a small machine, based upon the Leabarjan perforator, that would enable
owners to arrange and punch out their own music rolls. After various
delays and unrelated crises, I now own a Leabarjan, and have located a
pattern-maker, foundry, and machine shop that seem capable of doing the
work.
The major question now is whether enough people would be interested in
buying one for me to proceed with a short run. I have funds sufficient
to build some, and wouldn't be asking for deposits. Still, I would like
to hear from any persons who seriously consider themselves a potential
customer (no obligation), just to have an idea of demand. Or, anyone
with questions they'd like me to address in this forum.
The new machine will be based on the Leabarjan Model 5. The original
parts would be used to make new patterns for casting. Two differences
will be that the carriage holding the punch assembly (and sliding over
the paper) will be solid rather than hollow, both to make the casting
process far simpler and also to avoid the cracking that I understand is
often seen on the originals.
The punch assembly would be modified a little to allow a wider variety
of sizes, my idea being that the perforator will be adjustable for most
any roll up to the "standard" 11.25 inches in width.
There will probably be some other differences. In short, while
basically similar in appearance and at least as rugged, the new model
will be built with function as the main consideration, and not as an
exact replica.
I'm estimating price would be $2,000, not including any final shipping.
