Service Charges and Traveling Expenses
By Bob Taylor

The following is an example of service charges and traveling
expenses --

  Mrs. James Stuart
  500 N. Almansor
  Alhambra, California

  Dear Mrs. Stuart,

Your Ampico service for last year is now completed and your new
  service should start this month.

As you know, this service consists of keeping the mechanism of
your piano action and Ampico in first class condition, by making
four regular calls in one year at three month intervals, on
dates that will agree with our itinerary agreement; also tuning
the piano on each of said visits. Also, I will render service
on request in emergency. Case work and major material not
  included in the agreement.

The cost of this service is regulated by zones, and in your zone
is $35.00 per year. And it is mutually agreed that a change of
address into a zone of greater or less cost will be adjusted at
the time the change is made. I will either make a refund of a
proportional amount or you will pay the difference. A proportional
refund will also be made if for any reason I am unable to complete
  this contract.

If my plan meets with your approval, please sign the enclosed
card, and mail it at your earliest convenience. Your term of
service will commence with the date of my next call, and extend
one year. Agreements to be paid for in advance, and this letter
with your receipted bill for payment will comprise the
  agreement.

I hope that I may be able to give you the same personal service
  as in the past.

  Yours very truly,

  W. C. Zartman
  832 1/2 West 50th Street
  Los Angeles, California
  February 10, 1937

Zartman's letterhead states that he is a "Registered Ampico Technician"
and Concert Piano Tuner, 25 years with Wiley B. Allen Co.

The above letter was in the bench of my Mason & Hamlin, Ampico A, size
RBB (7'). The former owner, James Stuart, was the mayor of Glendale,
California.
