In the 07.02.23 MMD, I described transcriptions of mechanical musical
instrument recordings I'd made from long out-of-print LPs, which are
available for free download here:
http://www.avantgardeproject.org/mechanical/index.htm
Ironically, my web hosting service switched my site to a new server just
after that issue of the MMD went out, and the FLAC files containing the
transcriptions were unavailable for a couple of days, until I had them
perform a little fix that has to happen after a server transfer. Then a
week later the site was transferred again, and so the FLAC files were
unavailable for another three days. My apologies if you tried accessing
the files during either of those intervals and went away frustrated.
Anyway, they're available again.
Also, it occurred to me that many MMD readers may not have used FLAC
files before, and so may have been hesitant about downloading the
decoding software (actually, it's real easy) without first hearing a
sample of the transcriptions. So here are two MP-3 samples:

http://www.avantgardeproject.org/AGPMechanicalSample2.mp3
The first has three tracks, featuring a Phonoliszt Violina, a Violano
Virtuoso, and an unspecified carousel organ. The second has two tracks,
featuring the Weber Maesto and a Black Forest orchestrion. These are
the highest quality MP-3s I could make (320 kbps), but still they don't
sound as good as the CD-quality FLAC files. They should, however, give
you some sense of the clarity of these LP transcriptions. If you like
them, there are another six hours of transcriptions waiting for you at
the AGP website.
Enjoy!
