If this is the song title Ben Jackson seeks, I have it here on the
'Favorite 88 note' shelf beside the upright piano. One of the first
rolls of more than 1200 originals I've scanned to date, this lively
tune is US (United States) Player Music Roll # 44775, Fox Trot and
One Step, perforated in March 1928, copyright Shapiro & Bernstein,
Inc., played by 'pianist - Alex Taylor' and sold for $.75. The leader
suggests a tempo of 85, 90 for dancing.
I have found that many if not most folks prefer to monkey with tempos
to their own taste. Cakewalk (I use Cakewalk Version 9) has a Tempo
adjustment, as does Spencer's E-Roll MIDI File Player.
I sent the MIDI file separately for posting in the MMD archives.
As an 88-note scan, the MIDI file plays at velocity level 70, ready for
your computer's sound card or on a MIDI keyboard if you have a USB-to-MIDI
interface, readily available at most music instrument dealers. Mine is
a Roland Edirol UM-1ex. This matchbox-sized unit (with a 3-foot USB cable
and a 2-foot MIDI In/Out cable) cost a mere $44.95 Canadian plus 14% tax,
right here in my town's tiny Long & McQuade outlet. Full roll information
is imbedded in the file when opened in Cakewalk Info pane.
