Hi folks, Since the wireless MIDI discussion started, I've revived
a project that I've been working on for a while. Rather than
a wireless MIDI connection, what I want is remote control of the
computer that controls the piano. I don't mind a cable going from the
computer to the piano, but I do mind getting up off the sofa every three
minutes to select and start a new song. (Okay, so I'm a couch potato!)
So, I have an iPaq Pocket PC with Bluetooth, a Bluetooth dongle on the
PC at the piano, and some software that I found, called Zerama, that
gives remote control of Windows Media Player from the Pocket PC. It
was a struggle getting it installed on a Win 98 machine, but it works!
It's not completely trouble free yet. Mostly, the Bluetooth link
doesn't always start up, and takes some fiddling. Right now, I'm
working on switching on the piano motor with MIDI, so it will be
completely hands free. It's a Duo-Art Steinway XR, by the way.
Thanks to Spencer Chase for his terrific e-rolls.
