My son-in-law is restoring and installing a theater organ in his home.
The metal bars of the Harp hang vertically in the usual fashion, with
tubing sleeves on the hanger pins so as to prevent buzzing and allow
full tone development.
He renewed the tubing with material he bought from Organ Supply Inc.
Whenever the Harp sits unplayed for a day or so, the bars stick to the
top arc of the tubing and sound dead. Once he goes through and lifts
each bar a little (and he can feel and hear the unsticking) it plays
fine.
The question: What sort of tubing is best for this purpose?
Jim McFarland
[ Your description sounds like a vinyl tubing, which is somewhat
[ flexible but it may 'leak' plasticizer fluids and become sticky.
[ Instead, try wrapping the support pin with soft cotton cord.
