Hello Fellow MMDers, I just want to inform you of the 7th annual
Piano Roll Flea Market and Movie & Organ Event in Minneapolis,
Minnesota, to be held on Saturday, March 31, 2007. We have the
flea market from 8:30 AM to 1:00 PM at my shop:
Barton Player Piano Co.
2715 4th Street SE, Suite #40
Minneapolis, MN 55414
tel.: 1-612-378-1102
After the flea market we have a movie event 4 miles away at the
historic Heights Theatre (www.heightstheatre.com). We start off with
the "You Asked For It" clip featuring Max Kortlander and J. Lawrence
Cook demonstrating the piano roll manufacturing process. This is
followed by a short silent film with organ accompaniment from the
14-rank Wurlitzer pipe organ played by Carl Eilers.
After a brief intermission organ concert, we present a feature film
which must have a significant piano scene. This year's feature will be
"Flying Down To Rio" starring Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers. There is
a piano on a single engine airplane, and Fred and Ginger do a fantastic
dance number on seven grand pianos. Proceeds from the event go to the
continued restoration and installation of the Wurlitzer.
The Flea Market --
* Tables cost $10/table, $5/half-table
* Eligible products: piano rolls and related products. (New QRS rolls
are excluded since I am a dealer.)
* My newsletter is mailed to 1400 customers, attendance varies between
100-200. Attendance might be higher if I publicize more participants.
* I have had requests for more Ampico, Duo-Art, and Welte participants.
If you might be traveling a great distance, I can't guarantee that
you'll sell tons of rolls, but if you are looking to combine a little
business with pleasure, please join us.
I communicate better by phone than email. If you have questions call me
at 1-612-378-1102.

P.S. More about movies. In the past we have shown; Laurel and Hardy
in "The Music Box", "Goldiggers 1933" (many, many white grand pianos),
"Day At The Races" (Harpo playing the cast iron harp from a grand
piano), and Dr. Suess' "The 5000 Fingers of Mr. T" I'm running out of
movie ideas. For some reason I remember a movie I saw many years ago as
a teenager (long time ago) which featured someone's severed hand that
was kept in a box. The hand would periodically venture out of the box
and play the piano; must have been some variety of reproducing piano.
Can anyone help me out on this one or other movie ideas?
