Repairing Aeolian Duo-Art Upright
By Andy Hood

Hi Folk, I would like to introduce myself: Andy (or re-introduce
myself as I was a MMD subscriber back in 1996(!) until a complicated
house move down to Devon in 1997 when I unsubscribed). I remember
communicating with Jody and Robbie back then.

Then I had two Aeolian player pianos (not Duo-Art) both in need of
serious restoration to both piano and player actions -- they didn't
work! Several years ago in a move up here to Scotland I gave them
away as it was too difficult for me to move them and at the time
I had nowhere for them to go anyway.

Today I have just purchased a Steck half-Duo-Art upright (pedal,
not electric) manufactured by Aeolian in the USA. I bought it on
eBay and it looks and sounds like a great piano. It has been with
the seller from when they purchased the house some 40 years ago; the
people they bought the house from left it for them as it was too much
of a hassle to move then. So it may have been in one place for
anything up to 80 years! That would explain the beautiful original
condition which it appears to be in.

The piano, I am told, plays well and is in tune although the player
action needs some attention. So I am hoping one (or more) of you
wonderful piano technicians out there may give me an idea of where to
start! I have the two Reblitz books. Briefly, the roll only turns
when in the silent or rewind position. Apparently it did work about
a year ago although it took a bit of pedalling to play.

Thanks in anticipation,
Andy Hood (in the UK)
