Hello all, I am writing first of all to thank everyone who gave me
valuable advice in re-covering my Aeolian wind motor on my Stroud
Metrostyle Themodist upright. It is now re-covered, not leaking, and
is working great! In fact, its probably the only part of my player
that I now hear no air leaking from <haha>.
While playing through a roll the other day, the right outward pressure
spring that is attached to the right-side large exhaust bellows sheared
apart and broke. The result was a loud "twang" in a bass string, which
I wasn't happy about one bit! I have been looking for replacement
outward pressure springs and so far have only found the springs at
Player Piano Company's web site. I am in need of their "No. 273 Outward
Pressure Spring", 15 lbs. pressure, 8" long.
I have been told by people that the new springs made today do not have
the durability and life expectancy of original springs. I would like
whatever I put back in to last, so does anyone know if the Player Piano
Company's springs are okay, or where to buy a suitable replacement of
high quality? I am worried that my spring on their site only costs
about $9 when other springs cost about $45. Perhaps this is low
quality?
If anyone has a spring lying around from a vintage player and does not
have a need for it, I would be happy to pay shipping and perhaps more
for the spring.
Thanks to everyone,
Erik York
