Hi Erik, I read your posting in the MMD today and my suggestion would
be since it needs rebuilding, don't do temporary things. Simply remove
the wind motor, follow Art Reblitz's book on rebuilding and get your
feet wet and learn how to rebuild a wind motor. It is a good start to
learning how to rebuild a player piano and if you do a good job the
motor probably will work fine. Be very careful on reassembly and
alignment, and test it to make sure it works before installing it back
in the player piano. Follow Art's instructions and welcome to the
world of rebuilding.
You also answered your own question when you mentioned, "I have read
Art Reblitz's book section about what 'not' to use and he states do not
use anything other than the proper bellows cloth." So forget all about
using tacky glue and wasting your time with cotton drill cloth; that is
not the stuff to use. There is a difference between "cotton drill
cloth" and "cotton backed rubber bellows cloth".
There is an old saying that applies here: "If you don't have time to do
it right the first time, when are you going to find the time to do it
right?"
Have fun! Best of luck in doing the wind motor correctly.
