Hello, I am seeking information and help with a music box
I inherited from my parents. It was bought in Germany around 1945.
The wooden base is about 17 x 11 x 5 inches, made of darkened pearwood
or something similar. It has gold-painted metal ornamentation, and
a cast iron tree holder that lifts off.
It has eight discs records with titles in German and French. The
discs are labeled "Kalliope, made in Leipzig, Germany." There are no
identifying marks inside the box itself except "1903" stamped on the
metal. The bottom of the wooden box has the number 56 stamped on it.
Can anyone tell me any more about it?
Many of the discs play for only a little while before the music box
stops. The machine rotates fine when it is wound up without a disc.
I am wondering if the discs might be warped? If so, can anything be
done about them? Thank you.
