"Lawd, You Made The Night Too Long" Meloto Roll
By John Phillips
Hello MMD. Those Meloto Dance Rolls of the late 1920s and 1930s are
really well arranged. One of my 88-note examples was an unboxed dog
in a carton full of like rolls, or so it seemed. The leader had been
ripped off and someone had glued on a brown paper replacement that
covered two or three of the very first notes. It was called "Lawd,
You Made The Night Too Long" and I imagined it would be a dreary
spiritual of some sort. However, I steamed off the brown paper, made
a new leader and rehabilitated those first few notes. The rewards
were great; it's anything but dreary and not very spiritual -- it
just rocks along!

[ You made the coat and vest fit the best
[ You made the lining nice and strong
[ but Sam, You Made the Pants Too Long!
