Have you ever read something on MMD and then not been able to find
it again? I am having just one of those situations at the moment.
Some time ago, I recall reading an enquiry seeking information about
a popular song of the 1920s called "Leonora". Someone, I don't recall
who, gave information that the tune of the refrain of this song is
actually based on (I think) a Russian folk song. I am trying to
remember the exact details. If the original contributor reads this,
I'd be grateful if they could reply.
The original enquiry was in connection with a good quality piano roll
version of the song. I have since tracked down a piano score and plan
to arrange it for the organs. I can confirm that words and music of
"Leonora" are by Abner Silver; it was published by Shapiro, Bernstein &
Co, in New York, in 1927, and by B Feldman & Co in London the same year.

[ I recently came by a fantastic fox-trot roll entitled "Leonora"
[ syncopating the Russian folk-song theme "Dark Eyes" for the
[ chorus. Does anyone know anything about this "Leonora" tune?
[ I'd love to know as I have drawn a blank on this one. I think
[ the tune was by "Burnett" but don't have it to hand; the roll
[ is on the Meloto label.
