Seeburg Nickelodeon in Marquette Cremona Piano
By Don Teach
It always happens. You write that "so and so never did such a thing"
and, sure enough, an example turns up. Some years ago I wrote that
I had never seen an original Seeburg nickelodeon piano in a Cremona
piano case. Now it turns out that a collector in Iowa (the state
where I started working on nickelodeons) has found an original Seeburg
piano inside a Cremona piano case.
Cremona was a well-known coin-operated piano manufacturer in the early
1900's and J.P. Seeburg was one of his first route operators (route
man). Seeburg left the Cremona piano company to form his own company.
Seeburg and Cremona (made by Marquette) both bought their pianos from
other suppliers. Apparently in the early days they may have used the
same supplier.
