As most MMD members know, during my active days I wrote a book on
building an electronic band organ and did build twelve of them. The book
was published in 1986 and sold out within a year. I got a hefty royalty
from it!
I have had many requests for information about where to get this book, as
it is long out of print. Several people have been able to acquire copies
through inter-library loan.
Now I am retired, still rehabilitating from a 2002 accident which ended
my career as builder, performer, and teacher. I am seriously considering
revising the book, removing the electronic tone-generation and voicing
sections, but leaving the construction and wiring details intact. The
tonal equipment was devised by the late Ray DeVault (Devtronix), and like
its inventor, has long since disappeared from the market.
I would like to learn if anyone knows of, or could make, a sound module
with band organ voices that would play directly from a + going signal
without the need of a MIDI interface. That would make it much easier
for a band organ enthusiast to build an emulation of a Wurlitzer 125.
I will appreciate any information that would help me revise this book.
