Dear MMD Readers,
I owe you all a sincere apology for a mis-statement that I included in
my posting last week concerning the sale of Ben Conroy's roll
collection. I stated that Charles Booty, well known boogie-woogie
pianist and playing partner of Ben's, had passed away. That
information, I am both pleased yet embarrassed to report, is false.
Charley is quite alive and healthy at age 79 and is still playing the
devil out of the piano every chance he gets. I had been given incorrect
information from a source I can't even remember now, and feel terrible
about this mistake, which I take full responsibility for.
Ben corrected me today when we spoke over the phone and I of course
called Charley immediately with my sincerest apologies. In his typical
generous and good-natured way, he was laughing out loud and taking the
famous "reports of my death have been greatly exaggerated" stance on the
matter. Charley is an old friend of mine, going back more than thirty
years, but we have been out of touch for a long time.
I offer my sincere apologies to Charley's MMD fans whom my posting
alarmed for naught. We shall also correct the mis-statement in our
future listings of Ben Conroy's roll collection on eBay.
Sincerely,
Frank Himpsl
