Does anyone know where one can buy roll boxes?
I would think that many roll collectors like me have trouble with ratty
boxes and there would be some kind of project to replace the boxes.
My plan is to replace worn boxes, scan the old labels, possibly do a
retouching in Photoshop, and print them on non-acid paper.
I shall of course keep the original label with the end of the original
roll box, in case the new label disintegrates because of poor paper
quality, or something wrong with the glue. What kind of glue could one
use to secure the labels properly for the long term? Hot hide glue?
The difference in paper quality between the boxes and the rolls
themselves is formidable, luckily in the favor of the rolls. Some of
my boxes are now just a pile of cardboard, and they don't look very
good on the shelves.
I would also prefer to replace the ugly "bordello colored" red/gold
QRS boxes with black ones, to maintain a uniform and attractive
appearance of the roll collection.
The use of a scanner and Photoshop, with digital retouching or
enhancement, would achieve a proper reproduction of the labels, with
the original label/end piece of the roll box being kept inside the new
box with the roll.
I am sure there must be someone providing such boxes. There should be
A market for them, like there is a market for player piano parts.
