Hello John,
If this Gulbransen is your first attempt at rebuilding a player piano, I
do not think you should try to do it. I have rebuilt a couple of
Gulbransens, the first one many years ago, after I had done a few good
rebuildable players, and I thought I knew everything... Ha! There are
experienced rebuilders out there that have developed methods for
rebuilding Gulbransens.
My experience has been that Gulbransens are usually good pianos, and if
it is done right, they can become very good rebuilt player pianos again.
But this is _not_ something to be tackled by a first-timer. Get another
more rebuildable player, perhaps with a fairly common Standard action,
to do first. If the Gulbransen is a very good piano, save it until you
are an experienced rebuilder, then research and implement the all the
tips and tricks you can get to do it right.
