MMD rebuilders, The piano is a Baldwin Universal player. It has the
well-known pouch problems. However, it has the additional problem of
hardening and splitting, at the folds, of the pneumatic cloth covering
the finger pneumatics. If the stack is removed for pouch replacement
it seems prudent to also recover the pneumatics. These are plastic
pneumatic boards with plastic, glued-on lifter fingers.
I would appreciate advice and precautions from anyone who has completed
or attempted this particular aspect of Universal stack rebuilding. My
concerns are pneumatic removal technique and type of glue for reattachment
plastic pneumatics to the aluminum decks. Also, what type of glue has
been successful for reattaching the plastic fingers to the plastic
movable boards?
I have reglued a dozen fingers to boards (also plastic), on another
instrument, with thick CA glue. This has worked as an on-the-spot,
in-home repair, but I question whether CA for this application is
a proper rebuilding solution.
Thanks,
Debbie Legg
