"Pleasant Moments - Ragtime Waltz" by Scott Joplin
By Frank Himpsl
Robert Perry's discovery of the missing Scott Joplin Roll - "Pleasant
Moments - Ragtime Waltz" is one of the most exciting and historically
important roll finds of the past decade, ranking alongside Karl
Ellison's uncovering of "The Pearls" by Jelly Roll Morton several years
ago.
What a joy and relief to finally hear this extremely rare roll after
all these years! Finding "Pleasant Moments" has been the dream of
every ragtime roll collector ever since knowledge of its existence
came to light through the discovery of a ca. 1917-18 Connorized roll
catalog listing in the early 1960's. Scarce as they are, all the other
Joplin rolls had surfaced in collections by the 1960s, making possible
the historic ca. 1973 first-time LP recording by Biograph Records;
a collaboration between Mike Montgomery and Trebor Tichenor. "Pleasant
Moments" has always been the missing prize needed to complete the
Joplin recording legacy.
I applaud Robert Perry on this wonderful discovery and on behalf of
myself and the entire ragtime-loving world, offer heartfelt thanks
for his generosity in making this roll finally available to collectors.
I strongly encourage anyone with even the slightest interest in Scott
Joplin or piano rolls in general to obtain a copy from Robert by
ordering from his web site: http://www.pianola.co.nz/pleasant_moments.htm
Robert Perry -- thanks for bringing "Pleasant Moments" home to
collectors. This is a very happy day for ragtime.
Sincerely,
Frank Himpsl
