I have been busy catching up on the last few weeks articles
pertaining to archival roll scanning. This is a topic I find very
interesting as a curator of a museum of mechanical instruments.
I am looking for, and private e-mail would be fine, some contact
with persons who have already successfully created a roll scanner.
I am very interested in learning details as to how practical it
would be to build one myself.
I am looking at scanning our collections of the following types
of rolls: Ampico; Duo-art; T-100 red Welte; Lösche Jazz; Skinner
Semi-Automatic (Hammond); Aeolian Grand; and an untold number of
player piano rolls (and those odd size Kimball rolls.)
Ideally I have always thought it practical to create one extended
map so that as each type of roll is scanned, it would have it's
unique instrumentation preserved, but in a common format.
