Modifying Seeburg L Tubing Connections
By David Sharpe
I am about to reconnect the stack of my Seeburg L to the tracker bar.
I am considering modifying the original arrangement by moving all the
tubes from the tracker bar one position lower. There must be a good
reason Seeburg tubed it the way they did, but it seems to me there
would be two, possibly small, advantages to lowering everything by
a half-step.
1. The lowest note on the piano would be used independently instead
of being permanently coupled to the note an octave higher.
2. There would be one more independent note at the top of the scale.
Obviously everything would sound a half-step lower, but I don't know
what key any of the pieces were planned for and would not be able to
tell that mine were wrong even if I did know.
Is there a good reason not to do this? It would obviously not destroy
the originality of the instrument since someone could easily restore
the original tubing.
