AMICA Technical Session
By Spencer Chase

Hello, I too am presenting a technical session at the Chicago
AMICA convention [July 25-30] and, like Bob Taylor, I am not sure
what I will be discussing. So I am following his lead in asking
the MMD readers for suggestions.

The basic topic will be MIDI interfacing and file processing as
it relates to roll playing instruments. I will (hopefully) have
a Weber Duo-Art with a MIDI interface on which to perform various
demonstrations. I have written several programs that modify MIDI
files and will demonstrate these. Converting files, from sources
other than reproducing piano rolls, to play on the Duo-Art will
likely be my focus. A virtual pianola control for the Duo-Art will
be demonstrated as well as the ability to record the results in
order to facilitate the production of new rolls.

I don't want to spend too much time explaining MIDI but don't want
to bore people with too much technical detail either. Any questions
that readers might have regarding the application of MIDI to piano
roll playing might help me to focus my discussion. Any suggested
topics would also be welcome.

Best regards,
Spencer Chase
