AMICA Technical Session
By Bob Taylor

With this summer's AMICA convention rapidly approaching, I am still
uncertain on what to include in the technical session that I have
been asked to present. In general, I will be discussing the Aeolian
Reproducing Pipe Organ.

My goal is to make the presentation less technical so that it will
appeal to a larger audience. So few of these operational instruments
are in the hands of collectors that most AMICANS have not heard them
"up close and personal". That is why I am developing a program that
concentrates on the varied musical performances of these instruments.
Here is a brief outline of my program:

1. Brief history of Aeolian
2. The fully automatic Duo Art Organ system
3. The tonal nature of the organs
4. The imitative abilities of the organs
5. The importance of hand played rolls by the masters
6. Recorded passages of the organ to demonstrate the above.

There is only limited time in each session, so the topics must move on
rather briskly.

For those attending the Chicago convention, please drop me an email
to offer suggestions to the above program. If there is something that
should be included that is not mentioned above, please let me know.

I plan on producing CD's of the organ playing the best rolls, but
they probably will not be ready in time. I will have lots of rolls
at the mart.

Thanks,
Bob Taylor
