Seek Picture of Original Welte Plate Decal
By David Sharpe
The plate on my Original Welte-Built Welte piano (probably built by
Estey) had been reguilded before I bought it. The recent postings
about making decals makes me want to try to reproduce the decal which
was once on the plate. I can see an outline as if the guilding was
applied over the decal.
It is about seven inches wide. It has parts of about 20 gold coins in
the background and a large scroll near the top says, "Manufactured by
M. Welte & Sons New York." A narrower red ribbon says, "Highest awards
wherever exhibited" and across the bottom, "Established 1832." An eBay
listing number 7413060080 shows most of this decal but the sides are
cut off and there is reflected glare hiding some of it.
Does anyone have an Original Welte-Built grand with this decal which he
or she could photograph and send to me in a jpeg file? I would like to
try to make a decal, or even just a picture of the decal to paste onto
my plate. I would be very grateful to get a good photo of the decal
from which to start.
Thanks,
David Sharpe
