Gavioli Reed Organs
By Fritz Gellerman

[ Ref 060517 MMDigest, Gavioli "Guitharmonie" Barrel Reed Organ ]

There are two Gavioli reed organs pictured on my web site,
http://www.reedorgan.info/

Number 3194 is a cardboard book operated instrument with a three octave
keyboard called a Codeqophone.

Number 2704 is a conventional reed organ or harmonium with a four
octave keyboard made by Claude Gavioli & Soehne, Paris. The picture
was taken by the late Frank Rider.

There were two Gavioli companies, the Reed Organ Atlas shows:

GAVIOLI, C., FILS; 15 rue des Charbonniers, St.-Antoine, Paris,
also shown as Claude Gavioli & Söhne. Harmonium and harmoniflûte
manufacturer, 1883. One example of a Gavioli harmonium is in the
Mechanical Musical Instrument Museum, Bruchsal, Germany.

GAVIOLI & CIE.; 2 avenue Taillebourg, place du Trône, Paris, 1883; 175
bis rue de Bercy and 11 quai de la Râpée in 1903; founded by Ludovic
Gavioli. A. Gavioli and P. Yver, proprietors in 1903. Known mainly for
its fairground organs, Gavioli also made harmoniums and street organs
with free reeds. Awarded a bronze medal at the Paris Exposition of 1878.
