Seek Decals for Wurlitzer Drums
By Larry Emmons
Hi group! This subject has come up at a good time for us. We are
restoring a 1912 Wurlitzer B orchestrion and have been contemplating
how to restore the Wurlitzer labels and artwork to the bass and snare
drums. Both of these need re-skinning (a subject of a future inquiry
to MMD), but the original logo and artwork can be recorded by a careful
interpretation of the originals.
One drum has a split skin with a very good content record of the
original; the other is very faded but has good dimensional outlines of
the original. The originals are about 15 inches in diameter and appear
to be made up of several individual "decals"; they are "gold" in color.
Digital photography can be used to reproduce a good copy with a bit of
work. I plan to hire an artist to paint it if another solution is not
practical. These bold "WurliTzer" logos on the drums are a "must have"
for this restoration. Any advice, ideas, assistance will be much
appreciated!
Best Regards from Wyoming
