"Invercargill March" Words by Frank Baker Murn
By Jody Kravitz
A student in New Zealand writes:
Hullo Jody, I am Sophie from New Zealand and I am 11 years old.
At school I am learning about the Invercargill March and found on
mmd.foxtail.com information on the words of this march and that
the words were written by Frank Baker Murn.
I have searched Google but can't find any more about Mr. Murn.
I would like to know if he is definitely Australian and how he would
know how to write about Invercargill in New Zealand. Would he have
talked to Lithgow who composed the music? Can you please tell me
anything you know about him or where I could find more information?
Thank you.
Yours sincerely,

[ "Edith married Frank Baker Murn, the Director of Post and Telegraph
[ in New South Wales. Frank was an extremely sentimental man and
[ outside of his official work he gave his time to writing poetry.
[ This came as a great boon to the roll industry, because, when George
[ Horton gave the edict that piano rolls wherever possible should have
[ printed words, Frank obliged by writing lyrics where there were none!"
