Organ-Building Book "Kistdraaiorgel" in English
By Craig Smith

Hello again, In late August and September of 2005 I read in MMD about
a new translation of the book "Small Barrel Organ - Building Instructions".

This fine book was published by the author Johan de Vries and titled
"Kistdraaiorgel - bouwbeschrijving". It describes the construction of
a 36- or 38-note paper roll organ in great detail. It also includes
a number of good drawings, diagrams and pictures. The good news is
that Henk Degraauw (organ builder from Canada) has translated it into
English for those of us who are less than fluent in Dutch.

Many people wrote to Henk to get a copy but it turns out that Henk
_does not_ have any copies to sell. However, Henk and his friend
Rich Marcella just happened to visit me in Rochester last summer so
I was in contact with him by e-mail. So, Henk put me in touch with the
publisher in the Netherlands so that I could buy a copy.

Finding the communication (e-mail intermittent), language (Dutch only),
shipping (slow and expensive) and money exchange (wire transfer only)
to be a big/expensive problem, we spent several weeks working out an
arrangement for me to buy 25 copies to sell here in the USA. Those
original copies were gone in a few hours after I posted this notice
on MMD for the first time last December.

I finally was able to get another 25 copies from Holland this week.
I have contacted several people who wanted a copy but missed the boat
the first time and they have sent in orders. (Let me know if I missed
someone.) But I have a dozen copies of the book left to sell to anyone
else on MMD who might want one.

So, why not buy yourself a neat little book on organ construction.
If you are the type who bought your mother a baseball glove for
Christmas when you were a kid, you might want to buy one for your
spouse and hope that he or she will let you read it. Here is the
author's web page that describes the book at
http://www.johansorgels.nl/index.htm

You will be pleased to see that the book tells you not only what to
do but it provides drawings and a section on how to do it. So, if you
want a copy, just send me an e-mail and I'll tell you the arrangements.
I can take PayPal either from your account (preferred) or from a credit
card or you can send me money or a check. If you use a credit card
through PayPal, I'd appreciate it if you'd add $1 to cover the PayPal
fee.

The cost is $26 plus $5 shipping. It's a little more than last time
because the exchange rate is worse and mail cost has gone up. I'll put
your book into the Priority mail and you'll have it in a couple days.

Regards
Craig Smith
