Making Piano Roll from MIDI File

Could anyone out there shed some light on creating new piano rolls
from MIDI files?  I don't know if anyone out there has done this or
if it can even feasibly be done.  I have many songs that I love that
are not arranged into rolls and this prompts my question.

 [ If a MIDI file sounds nice when played on a solenoid piano at
 [ constant velocity, then an 88-note piano roll can usually be made
 [ from the MIDI file and it will sound like the solenoid piano
 [ performance.  That's the only realistic way I know to test the
