Carl Dodrill's query in response to the pedal "O" Steinway article
sent me looking. I used to have all the serial numbers, as well as
which were uprights, which were grands, which were Duo-Arts. This
I had with the contract between Steinway and Aeolian. I can't find
any of these, but I would _really_ like to get a copy of the contract
again, if anyone knows where that might be found.
As I remember, there were almost exactly 10,000 Steinways of all sizes
and types delivered before 1930. Of those the count of pedal models
was about 500. Many of these were re-fitted with the Duo-Art, many
were gutted. We absolutely loved ours. We sold it only because a
6'-6", a 7'-6" and a 9'-6" piano were just too much for our living
room. We added a pedal box to the 7'-6" and will certainly add one
to the 9'-6".
It's a shame to see another pedal "O" bite the dust, but in the current
market it's no surprise.
