Good afternoon, I thought it would be good if I were to mention a bit
more about the forthcoming sale in May at Christies. It's a big one!
Mechanical Music and Technical Apparatus, Wednesday 31 May 2006,
2:00 P.M., including the Gerald Stonehill collection of Duo-Art:
Lot 123 - The Gerald Stonehill Duo-Art Library, the largest and most
comprehensive collection of Duo-Art music, approximately 400 rolls
without duplication, some contained in sectional bookcases (part marked
Globe Wernecke). Estimate £15,000-25,000
Lot 124 - The Iles-Stonehill Duo-Art electric push-up player, 'The
Robot', used in the Nimbus recordings in the 1990s that went on to be
awarded the Grand Prix du Disque in 2000. Built in 1973, the Robot
uses Aeolian 1935 "B" Drawer, electric roll drive and graduated
pneumatics. Estimate £3,000-5,000
Lot 125 - A Unique German Steinway Duo-Art Grand Electric reproducing
piano, No 266207 with 3-H opposed action and added crash-valve
operation built by Gordon Iles, in figured burr-walnut case.
Estimate £20,000-40,000
Lot 126 - A model 12 Weber grand piano with Duo-Art action.
Estimate £800-1,200
Lot 127 - A two-tier breakfront roll cabinet decorated in the Chinese
taste (holds around 450 rolls). Estimate £1,000-1,500
Other sections in the sale are entitled (the numbers show the number

phonographs 19, gramophones 35, pneumatic and wind stringed instruments
10, singing birds 10, small musical boxes and automata 5, disc musical

There are 3 part-overture boxes and one fine mandoline expressive
overture box, three large barrel organs (including the Flight & Sons
organ from the estate of the late F. Hill) and all the other lots which
our twice-yearly sales are renowned and, indeed, are now expected of us
to be offering.
