Can anyone suggest a plater who they're very satisfied with, for
plating musical instrument parts? I'm in the process of restoring
a very rusty set of Deagan shaker chimes, and need to find a plater
willing to work with me in bits and pieces without gouging me on
the price. The problem is that the instrument has so many parts that
if disassembled and sent all at once, I'm afraid something would be
lost in the tank, or just plain lost.
Secondly, the instrument is comprised of many steel tubes that ring
like chimes, and of course any damage to the tube with heat from
over-buffing would destroy the note. (I realize some tuning will be
necessary afterward, but you can't tune the tube if the sound has been
deadened with too much heat.)
Thirdly, there are soldered plugs in the bottom of the tubes that must
remain in place (for tuning) so a chemical solution that won't affect
the soldering must be used.
The point is I need to find a plater who won't just dump this stuff in
the tank and think the job is done. Any recommendations for a plater
you've had personal satisfaction with?
