Plating Metal Parts
By Pat DeWitt

Hi All, In response to Don Teach's posting about nickel plating knobs:
I have had local platers do various plating jobs for me. I typically
have had brass plating done, but nickel should be easily accomplished,
as well. My experience has been that commercial platers typically do
work for industrial customers having larger quantities of parts. So
you may have to pay "by the batch" regardless of the number of parts
that you have. Therefore it is most economical to have the largest
possible number of parts done all at one time. Also the plater should
be able to give you advice on the various plating steps necessary to
get the best result.

My most recent experience was to have all the decorative plates for an
Ampico "A" drawer done in brass. (Sixteen parts in all, and they are a
cast ferrous material, not pot metal as I had expected.) I paid $120
to get them plated and they look outstanding. Following the brass
plating, I sealed them from tarnishing by using a clear spray lacquer.
